LVP Conscious Connections

LVPCC is our collaborative initiative where we partner with other civic organizations by providing resources and support to movements that empower marginalized individuals to use their voices by engaging in the civic process.

Our efforts are focused around racial injustice, inequality and police brutality. We seek opportunities to be apart of larger conversations and efforts that help us to unify, uplift and undo the oppressive practices of America.

THEY MATTERED - IN 2020, during the COVID-19 Pandemic and Racial Uprising after the murder of George Floyd, LVP's Founder began this visual display on her instagram page of lives taken by police brutality because "They Mattered".

Today, we continue this visual representation to remind everyone that we are still in the fight for justice and equality. Part of our civic engagement has to do with empowering Black people to continue to use their voices and never forgetting those who no longer can.

Rayshard Brooks (June 2020) unarmed and asleep in his car blocking a restaurant drive thru.

Breonna Taylor (March 2020) unarmed and murdered in her home while asleep.

Ahmaud Arbery (February 2020) unarmed and murdered while jogging.

Atatiana Jefferson (Oct. 2019) unarmed and murdered in her home when neighbor called police for 'suspicious' activity.

Botham Jean (Sept. 2018) unarmed and murdered in his apartment by off duty police officer who claims she thought she was in her apartment.

Markeis McGlockton (July 2018) unarmed and murdered in Cleanwater Florida under 'Stand Your Ground' after allegedly parking in handicapped space.

Antwon Rose Jr. (June 2018) unarmed teenager and allegedly attempting to flee the scene after allegedly being involved in drive by shooting.

Stephon Clark (March 2018) unarmed teenager and murdered in the backyard of his grandmothers home with a cell phone in his hand.

Karryn Gaines (August 2016) unarmed and she allegedly refused to vacate her vehicle so officers to issue her a warrant in relation to an earlier traffic violation.

Philando Castile (July 6, 2016) unarmed and murdered during a traffic stop.

Alton Sterling (July 5, 2016 unarmed and murdered for allegedly selling cd's outside of a store.

Terrance Crutcher (September 2016) unarmed and murdered standing near his vehicle.

Natasha McKenna (February 2015) unarmed and diagnosed schizophrenic killed in police custody.

Maya Hall (March 2015) unarmed troubled transgender woman killed while in an active mental breakdown.

Walter Scott (April 2015) unarmed and stopped for a non-working break light.

Freddie Gray (April 2015) unarmed died in police custody while being transported in a police van.

Sandra Bland (July 2015) died in police custody after being stopped for a traffic violation.

Samuel Dubose (July 2015) unarmed and murdered during a traffic stop.

Christian Taylor (August 2015) unarmed teenager and murdered after driving his car through a dealership window.

India Kager (September 2015) in less than 15 seconds the police fired 30 rounds into her car with her son in the car. The incident killed both parents in the car.

Keith Childress (December 2015) unarmed and wanted for sentencing in Arizona. The police claimed he was wanted for murder, which wasn't true.

Jamar Clark (Dec. 2015) unarmed and placed under arrest after a domestic violence altercation with his girlfriend. While being arrested a knee was placed in his neck causing his subsequent death a day later.

Eric Garner (July 2014) unarmed and placed in choke hold for selling loose cigarettes.

John Crawford (August 5, 2014) murdered in a Walmart store while holding a B B gun that was for sale in the store.

Mike Brown (August 9, 2014) - Unarmed teenager shot six times with his hands up.

Ezell Ford (August 11, 2014 murdered during a mental breakdown and altercation with police.

Roshod McIntosh (August 24, 2014) murdered after police stated he pulled a gun on them. This account was later found to be a lie of one officer to cover for the other officer.

Cameron Tillman (September 2014) teenager fatally shot when horse playing with other teens in an abandoned house. He was holding a B B gun when police shot him dead.

Laquan McDonald (October 2014) teenager initial accounts stated he was 'erratic' and unresponsive to police demands. Investigations later showed he walking away from police when he was shot and killed.

Tanisha Anderson (Nov. 13, 2014) mentally ill and died in police custody after being violently arrested.

Akai Gurley (November 14, 2014) unarmed and shot in the stairwell of his home officer stated the entrance of Akai and his girlfriend in the hallway 'startled' him.

Tamir Rice (Nov. 22, 2014) teenager shot immediately after arriving on the scene as he was playing with a toy gun.

Kayla Moore (Feb. 2013) unarmed transgender mentally ill female died in a struggle with police.

Kimani Gray (March 10, 2013) teenager shot and killed after allegedly pointing a toy gun at police.

Wayne Jones (March 13, 2013) unarmed and shot 22 times in a split second decision after he failed to comply with police orders.

Jonathan Ferrell (Sept. 2013) - Unarmed, College Football player, had a car accident and knocked on a door for help. shot 12 times by police on arrival.

Miriam Carey (Oct. 2013) was shot an killed after a traffic mix up that caused her to enter restricted areas near the White House security check point. Her son was in the car and unharmed.

Ramarley Graham (Feb. 2, 2012) teenager, was shot in the bathroom of his own apartment. Allegedly, the police officer believed he was armed and reaching for his weapon. There was no weapon recovered from the scene.

Sgt. Manuel Loggins, (Feb. 7, 2012) an ex Marine was shot dead after crashing his car into a school gate. His two teen daughters witnessed the shooting and was held for questioning 13 hours without access to a parent or counsel.

Treyvon Martin (Feb 26, 2012) Unarmed teenager, shot after a physical altercation where Treyvon was getting the best of George Zimmerman, a community watch organizer.

Wendell Allen (March 7, 2012) - Unarmed, 20 years old, shot in his home, single time in the chest during a drug raid.

Dane Scott (March 15, 2012) - Unarmed, teenager, shot in the back by Del City police captain.

Shereese Francis (March 15, 2012), a diagnosed schizophrenic was suffocated and murdered after police responded to a mental ill crisis situation.

Rekia Boyd (March 21, 2012) was murdered after being approached in a park for noise complaint. The officer had a verbal altercation with an individual in the group and subsequently fired into the group, killing Rekia.

Kendrec McCade (March 24, 2012) unarmed teenager with no prior record was shot dead because he was believed to have known someone who allegedly stole a backpack. He ran and was pursued by police in a high speed chase ending in Kendrec's death.

Alan Blueford (May 6, 2012) unarmed teenager, was shot four times, three weeks before his high school graduation, while on the ground after fleeing two police officers. The specific circumstances around the apprehension is unclear as there was no footage of the incident.

Shantel Davis (June 12, 2012) unarmed female, who was allegedly driving erratically through Brooklyn, New York. She was approached by two police officers, who attempted to prevent her from exiting her vehicle. One of the officers shot her one time in the chest. Killing her instantly.

Jordan Davis (Nov. 23, 2012) unarmed teenager was shot dead because he and his friends were playing loud music at a gas station.

Shelly Frey (Dec. 8, 2012) unarmed, was shot dead after she and her friends were accused of stealing out of Walmart. Shelly attempted to flee with her two young children and was shot in the car with her kids watching.

Darnesha Harris (Dec. 12, 2012) unarmed teenager, was shot and killed after police responded to a disturbance to which she was fleeing. Allegedly, she hit a police cruiser and a cop opened fire, killing her.

Raheim Brown (Jan. 22, 2011), unarmed was murdered after police alleges that he attempted to stab an officer with a screwdriver. Witness account that the screwdriver never left the ignition of the car as it was used to hot wire the car.

Aiyana Mo'Nay Stanley-Jones, (May 16, 2010, 7 years old, was shot in the head during a raid.

Oscar Grant III (June 2009) - Unarmed, killed by BART Police officer who shot him in the back while laying on the platform at the Fruitvale Station.

Tarika Wilson (Jan. 4, 2008) unarmed and holding her 18 month old child, was murdered by police who were in pursuit of her boyfriend suspected of selling drugs.

Kathryn Johnston (Nov. 21, 2006) murdered in her home after police executed botched raid.

Sean Bell (Nov. 25, 2006) - Unarmed, Killed by NYPD police on his Wedding Day in a hail of 50 bullets.

Gus Rugley (June 24, 2004) unarmed, shot 36 times, 6 in the head for allegedly being a suspected drug dealer.

Timothy Stansbury (Jan. 24, 2004) unarmed teenager was murdered on the rooftop of building after a police open fire "mistakenly" in a panic while entering a stairwell.

Kendra James (2003) unarmed female was shot while in the midst of a traffic stop gone wrong. After the officer couldn't forcibly remove Kendra from the drivers seat he shot her in the head.

Amadou Diallo (1999) unarmed was fatally shot 19 times after being mistaken for a rape suspect from one year earlier.

Rodney King (1991) was brutally beaten by Los Angeles police during an arrest for drunk driving. The acquittal of the police officers that brutally beat him sparked the 1992 L.A. Riots.

Phillip Pannell (1990) unarmed teenager was shot and killed while fleeing a police officer in Teaneck, Nj.
